Stadionul Iuliu Bodola

For most of a century this ground on Strada Olimpiadei was simply the Municipal Stadium.

It opened in 1924. The current capacity sits at just over eleven thousand, a fraction of what it once held — estimates for the old, terraced version run as high as thirty thousand — and the drop owes as much to safety works as to modern seating standards. The Eastern stand has been closed off entirely, judged unsafe for spectators, which explains why a ground built for tens of thousands now feels considerably smaller.

The record attendance dates back to 1984, when 30,000 people packed in for a match now remembered mainly through that one number, since no further detail about the game has survived in any record worth trusting. It is a figure that belongs to a different stadium in every practical sense — one with open terraces instead of the plastic seating installed since — and it stands as a reminder of how much the ground has been scaled down since.

The pitch itself remains natural grass, unchanged through all the renumbering of stands and stripping back of capacity around it.
