Stadionul Mircea Chivu

Reșița's ground carries a name most Romanian clubs would envy for the story alone: Mircea Chivu, father of Cristian Chivu, who took his first steps in top-flight football here in the 1997/98 season before a career that reached far beyond this corner of Caraș-Severin. The stadium itself predates that story by decades, opened in 1926, which puts it among the oldest football grounds still standing in Romania.

It was not always a stage for lower-division football. The team that once called this ground home won the national championship in 1930/31 and lifted the Romanian Cup in 1954, a run that belongs to an era before the country's football map reshaped itself around Bucharest.

The terraces changed shape in 2009, when standing areas gave way to seats, and the capacity figures never quite settled afterwards — some registries still cite the old 12,500, others the smaller seated count. What has not changed is the pitch itself, kept as natural grass, and the current tenant, CSM Reșița, who play there now much as earlier sides did before them, with CSM Metalul Reșița also using the ground between 2013 and 2016.

There is talk in Reșița of tearing the old stands down and building a smaller, modern replacement on the same footprint, one that would keep the Mircea Chivu name and the statue that stands with it. For now the ground remains standing, unaltered in its essentials, still the address on Strada Valea Domanului where the city's football history began.
