Tallaght Stadium
Ownership sits with South Dublin County Council, which built and still manages the site, while Shamrock Rovers occupy it as tenants under the council's stewardship.
The opening did not come easily. Work on the ground started back in 2000 but stalled for years before construction resumed in earnest in May 2008, finally bringing the stadium into use in March 2009, with the first match played there on 13 March that year. The design came from Martin Noone Architects , with P.J. McLoughlin & Sons Ltd as main contractor.
The pitch is natural grass, and in Dublin's wet climate that has meant the usual demands of a living surface — reseeding, mowing, and drainage that has to work overtime after heavy rain. It is a detail groundstaff at Whitestown Way deal with season after season.
