Tammelan Stadion
The ground in Tampere's Tammela district carries a single name across two entirely different buildings. Tammelan Stadion opened in 1931 as an open bowl with no running track and room for roughly 5,000 spectators; the arena standing today is its full replacement, raised on the same plot after the old stands came down.
The rebuild traces back to 2012. Two years later an architectural competition was decided in favour of JKMM Architects and their entry, named "Hattutemppu". Demolition of the old stadium began in spring 2021, construction of its replacement followed that summer, and the new building was finished in November 2023.
Its debut came in stages rather than on one date. A friendly between Tampere United and SJK Akatemia opened the pitch in January 2024, before the stands around it were fully finished. Fans were let in three weeks later, when Ilves drew Haka 2:2, and the official opening followed in April, marked by a scoreless league draw between Ilves and Lahti.
Ilves, and its women's team, moved in as resident club from 2023. The pitch is artificial turf laid to UEFA's category 4 standard, and the finished stands now hold 8,017 — well beyond anything the 1931 ground carried.
