Tehelné pole

The name is the only thing that survived. When the new Tehelné pole opened on 3 March 2019 with a 2:0 friendly win over Trnava, it rose on the exact spot where architect Camillo Gross had built the original ground, opened 27 September 1940. That stadium fell silent in 2009, and demolition did not begin until 10 July 2013.

The rebuild took longer than planned. Work started on 5 September 2016, but disputes over funding involving club owner Ivan Kmotrík and administrative delays pushed the cost from an initial contract of €49.81 million to a final figure near €98.5 million, of which the state covered €27.2 million through a direct grant.

What emerged holds 22,500, a fraction of the 70,000 who packed the old bowl on 18 May 1957 for Czechoslovakia's World Cup qualifier against Yugoslavia, still the site's attendance record. The new ground has built its own history instead around capacity crowds, Manchester City's Champions League visit on 1 October 2024 among them. The Dutch turf laid for the 2019 opening lasted until that same autumn, when the club fitted a hybrid pitch at a cost of over €850,000, €680,000 of it state-funded.

Away from football, the stadium has drawn 28,600 for Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2022 and close to 30,000 for Depeche Mode in 2023. ŠK Slovan Bratislava remain its only football tenants.
