Thabeng High School Ground
Morija, Lesotho
Formerly: Thabeng Football Grounds
It is not a monument to any particular era, but it has outlasted the clubs that once seemed permanent. The capacity sits at one thousand spectators, a figure settled after earlier records suggested a slightly higher number. It is a modest space where the line between the crowd and the players is remarkably thin.
The venue is most closely tied to Lijabatho FC, who play in the Vodacom Premier League. The club’s history here is short but sharp; they reached the top flight in 2019 after years in the lower divisions. Their rise culminated in the 2025/26 season when they claimed the league title, breaking a cycle of dominance held by older institutions like Lioli, Bantu, and Matlama. That victory was significant not just for the points, but for the shift in the local football hierarchy.
Before it was a football ground, or perhaps alongside it, the site served a different purpose. A document from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Lesotho confirms the location was active in October 2001, hosting the third Morija Arts & Cultural Festival. Over the last two decades it has transitioned, or perhaps simply expanded, to serve both the calendar of the league and the cultural schedule of the town.
It exists as a functional space for sport and community gathering. The history of the building itself is not recorded in any official archive, but the presence of the festival in 2001 proves it was a central point long before Lijabatho arrived.
