Thanh Hóa Stadium

Behind the far goal, you can see a taller building rising out of the city. It is a wide view of the town, not a bowl. The floodlights are tall and cast a strong light over the grass. The surface looks green and even, though the track surface is a different colour entirely, a reddish-brown that contrasts with the turf.

This is the only major stadium in the city of Thanh Hóa. It hosts Dong A Thanh Hoa FC. The club has had many names over the years, shifting from the police force to the military, and now to a private enterprise. The stadium was upgraded in 2014 to meet AFC Champions League standards, bringing the pitch and facilities up to a higher level. That work is visible in the quality of the grass and the state of the advertising hoardings.

There is a sense of community here. The stands are close to the action, and the track means the crowd is always near the players. It is not a modern, multi-purpose arena; it is a football ground first. The city is flat, and the stadium is situated in a ward called Ba Đình. The address is 37 Lê Quý Đôn Street. When a match is held here, the town comes out. The capacity is around 14,000, though some sources say less. It is often full. A new stadium is planned for Quảng Thành ward, but that is not here. This is the place now.
