For the whole of the 2020–21 season, the ground stood empty and Hapoel Be'er Sheva played their home matches at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. In August 2020 the venue was declared a dangerous building: cracks had been found in support beams, bolts had worked loose.

It had arrived to replace Vasermil Stadium, which was demolished — the Be'er Sheva Municipality built the new ground with money from the national lottery, Toto, whose council also sponsors it, and the name honours Yaakov Turner, mayor of the city from 1998 to 2008. Goldschmid Ardy Ben Naam Architects drew it. The first match, on 21 September 2015, ended goalless against Maccabi Haifa.

Three years on it took its first international fixture, Israel beating Albania 2–0 in the UEFA Nations League in October 2018. Between those dates and since, the ground has served as Hapoel's European home, staging Champions League and Europa League qualifying ties.

The attendance record belongs to a league night against Maccabi Tel Aviv on 7 December 2025, when 15,961 came through the turnstiles — a few hundred short of the 16,126 the bowl holds, which is about as full as this place gets. The stadium keeps no site of its own; what there is sits on the club's pages and the municipality's.
