Tourbillon
Sion, Switzerland
The Stade de Tourbillon does not hide itself. That sequence of letters is the landmark.
The architecture is functional rather than ornamental. The surface is natural grass, bordered by a strip of synthetic turf along the touchlines.
The stadium has not had a sponsorship name and has consistently been known as Stade de Tourbillon since it opened in 1968. It has not been rebuilt; it has been maintained. The most significant modification took place between 2010 and 2015, when the club converted the venue to an all-seater configuration to meet UEFA Category 4 standards. The current capacity is cited between 13,509 and 16,283 depending on the source.
Recent news has shifted the focus of the ground. In December 2023, it was announced that the stadium would be replaced by a new venue by 2030.
