Traian Sports Hall
Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania
The Traian Sports Hall sits in the Traian district of Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania, on Bulevardul Nicolae Bălcescu. It opened in 1982, though the architect is not recorded. The hall is the home of SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea, a professional women's handball club that was previously known as CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea. Renovations in 2011 increased the capacity to 3,126 seats, but a safety adjustment in 2020 reduced it to 2,375. The venue hosted matches during the 2000 European Women's Handball Championship, but the defining moment remains the 2009–10 EHF Women's Champions League semi-final first leg against Viborg HK. CS Oltchim won that match 28–21 in front of a record crowd of 3,126 spectators. The hall also hosts the National Karate Championship (Shotokan WSF) and annual charity galas like "Salvează Crăciunul," though no major concerts or political rallies have been held there. It has never carried a former name and has always been known as Traian Sports Hall, named for the district it occupies.
