Central Republican Stadium Dushanbe
Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Formerly: Republican Stadium named after M.V. Frunze
The ground sits in the Sino District of Dushanbe, tucked between Ismail Somoni Avenue and Nizami Ganjavi Street.
The pitch is covered in artificial turf, laid down in March 2014 to replace the natural grass that had worn down. The ground still hosts the Tajikistan national football team and the local club FC Istiqlol. It was once named after M.V. Frunze, a name it kept until 1991, but the history of the building stretches back much further. Construction began in 1939, halted by the war, and the stadium eventually opened in 1962.
The most significant match played here was the 2015 AFC Cup final, where FC Istiqlol lost 1–0 to Johor Darul Ta'zim. In June 1989, the stands filled with 70,000 people to see concerts by Alla Pugacheva and A'Studio.
A new National Stadium of Tajikistan is currently under construction to eventually replace the Central Republican Stadium.
