Ukraine Stadium
Львів built its ground through the народна будова method between 1960 and 1963 and opened it under the name «Дружба», which it carried until 1990.
Then came the renaming. In 1990 «Дружба» became «Україна», and the ground has kept that name since.
The bigger change was structural. The terraces originally held somewhere above forty thousand, and it took European football to shrink them: «Карпати» qualified for the Кубок УЕФА in 1999–2000, and the reconstruction carried out for that campaign cut the ground to its present 28,051 seats. The capacity has stayed at that figure since.
What separates «Україна» from the other large ground in the city is that «Арена Львів» was built new in 2011 and took the ЕВРО-2012 fixtures. The older stadium in the park kept the club.
The setting is part of it. Natural grass on the pitch.
The name causes confusion at a distance. Kyiv's НСК «Олімпійський» is a separate ground with a separate address on вулиця Велика Васильківська; «Ukraine Stadium» in the listings means Львів.
