The ground at Karavaevo went up the way a good many rural stadiums did in the late 1970s — by people's construction, with the settlement's own residents doing the work and the money coming from the social insurance funds of collective farmers, trade unions and other organisations. It opened in September 1978.
What it has never been is a football-only site. Winter brings bandy — matches in the Patriarch's Cup have been played here — and the summer has seen regional baseball championships on the same footprint.
The most recent change of shape began in 2024, when more than 100 million roubles came in under the national project Demography. The work laid down eight athletics tracks and put in facilities for the throwing events.
For football it is home to FC Spartak Kostroma, whose supporters travel out of the city to the settlement rather than watching in it. The listed capacity is 3,164.
