The V. S. Konovalenko Ice Palace sits in the Avtozavodsky district. It is owned by GAZ, the Gorky Automobile Plant.

The ground has lived through two lives. It began as an open-air stadium in 1967. It was rebuilt into the covered sports palace that stands today, opening in 1990. The surface inside is artificial ice.

It is the home of HC Chaika, the junior side, but the name Konovalenko belongs to the old days. It was the primary arena for HC Torpedo during the Russian Super League era, before they moved to the Nagorny Sports Palace in 2007. The opening match of the 2000-01 season was played here, a 3-3 draw with Metallurg Novokuznetsk that a sell-out crowd of 4,000 watched with quiet pride.

The structure has not been kind to its occupants. It is often described as needing major repairs, a sentiment that has lingered since the club announced plans for renovation in 2011.
