Vaasa Arena

Vaasa, Finland

Formerly: Kuparisaaren jäähalli

Vaasa Arena is a multi-purpose venue situated in the Kuparisaari district of Vaasa, Finland. While it hosts matches for Vaasan Sport, the primary surface is ice, maintained on a concrete base with a refrigeration system, making it one of the few covered rinks in the region. The facility includes four ice surfaces in total, with the main rink flanked by three smaller training tracks.

The venue opened in 1971 as the fourth covered ice rink in Finland. Its most defining feature, however, is the roof structure. A major renovation between 2018 and 2020 replaced the original wood-arch roof following a structural incident in December 2017. During a concert, a ventilation duct and lighting rails fell from the ceiling, injuring seven people. The renovation secured the roof and increased the capacity to 5,200 seats, an increase from the 4,448 capacity after a previous expansion in 2009. The record attendance of 5,200 was set on February 17, 2024, during a Liiga match between Vaasan Sport and Ilves.

The arena also hosts curling championships, figure skating, and concerts. Artists such as Nightwish, Tarja, and Apulanta have performed here.
