Valhalla IP

Valhalla IP got there first: the ground laid Sweden's original artificial turf back in 1974, and the pitch itself has been replaced twice since — most recently in 2019, brought up to UEFA specification.

The name itself outlived a different stadium. Valhalla IP borrowed its title from Walhalla IP, an older ground spelled with a "w" that stood elsewhere in Gothenburg until it was pulled down in the early 1920s. The current arena, opened in 1964 with a Örgryte IS–IFK Göteborg fixture settling a local triangular series, has carried the inherited name without a single rebrand since.

What sets it apart from the city's bigger venues is scale kept deliberately modest: just 1,200 of its seats sit under cover, added in 2015 along with space for wheelchair users, while the rest of the capacity stands open to the weather. Some of those seats have their own history — plastic chairs shifted over from Gamla Ullevi while that stadium underwent its own rebuild in 2007, along with upgraded floodlights, a new sound system and fresh dressing rooms fitted the same year.

Ownership now sits with Higab, the municipal housing body, and day-to-day running goes through the city's Got Event operation rather than any dedicated club office — a reminder that this is a shared civic pitch first, home ground second.
