Victoria Stadium
Long before Gibraltar joined UEFA, Victoria Stadium served the British garrison on Winston Churchill Avenue. The Royal Engineers rebuilt it in 1970, opening it up to both the army and the civilian population, a joint use that shaped the place for decades.
Officially the capacity runs to 5,000, but for UEFA fixtures it has been capped at 2,300. Gibraltar's national side only started playing internationals here in 2018, once the federation had been admitted to UEFA, and made use of it: wins over Liechtenstein and Latvia followed, and the last competitive match before the ground closed, in November 2022, ended 1-0 to Gibraltar over Andorra, the goal scored by Roy Chipolina.
In 2025 the old ground was demolished to make way for a new UEFA category 4 national stadium, a project costed at around £100 million and backed by the Gibraltar Savings Bank under a full government guarantee; the artificial pitch itself was lifted and relaid at the Lathbury Sports Complex.
