No ground in England has staged more FA Cup semi-finals than Villa Park — fifty-five of them, a record.

The shape most fans recognise dates to 1914, when Archibald Leitch was brought in for a large-scale reconstruction — the name most often tied to the ground's history since. The Holte End went up between 1939 and 1940; wartime bombing later damaged the Witton Lane stand, and repairs were not finished until 1954.

The club has discussed selling naming rights more than once and has stopped short every time — the ground has answered to Villa Park alone since it opened in 1897.

Its neutral-venue record runs deep: three group matches at the 1966 World Cup, four at Euro 96, and Lazio's 2-1 win over Mallorca in the 1999 Cup Winners' Cup final. England have played here seventeen times since 1899. The ground is confirmed among the venues for Euro 2028, and the North Stand is due for rebuilding by the 2027/28 season to push capacity past 50,000. Aston Villa's women's side moved in from 2024/25, and last July the pitch hosted Black Sabbath's farewell show in front of around 45,000.
