The ground at 6 Dao Tan Street in Vinh has a history that stretches back to the 1970s, though what you see now belongs to a later era. A major reconstruction completed in 2003 replaced the original structure, which dates to the 1970s, installing a domed roof for Stand A and bringing the venue up to international standards required for the 2003 SEA Games.

What stands out about the place is the intensity it generates for local fixtures. The stadium has seen crowds swell far beyond its nominal capacity, once holding 30,000 spectators for a match against Becamex Binh Duong in 2013. In 2011, the venue witnessed chaos when thousands of fans without tickets broke through gates and climbed walls to watch a 1–1 draw, a result that secured the league title for Song Lam Nghe An. The ground has also hosted several Vietnamese Cup finals, most recently in 2024/25, where Cong An Ha Noi defeated Song Lam Nghe An 5–0.

While the capacity is often cited as 18,000, the site has historically accommodated significantly larger numbers on occasion, making the precise figure less relevant than the reality of the crowd when the stakes are high. The addition of 6,000 seats to the B stand in 2016 for the Phu Dong Sports Festival. Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC also shared the venue in 2025 due to issues at their own ground, but the identity of the stadium is firmly bound to the local club.
