Viorel Mateianu Stadium

Viorel Mateianu Stadium has carried four names since 1923. It opened as the Municipal Stadium on 9 April 1923, on a site that had held a wooden ground since 1896. It became 23 August Stadium under the communist government, a name marking the 1944 coup, then Dealul Florilor — Hill of Flowers, after the rise it sits on — once that regime fell in 1989. Since around 2010 it has carried the name of Viorel Mateianu, the coach who led the Baia Mare side through the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The ground's largest crowd gathered on 15 September 1982, when Real Madrid came for a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first-round tie and left with a goalless draw in front of 25,000 spectators. The home side had a goal by Alexandru Coller disallowed and struck the bar. A 2015 league match against FCSB drew around 16,000, and capacity itself has since been cut to 8,000 after plastic seating went in during a 2008 renovation for safety reasons.

A 2018 plan to rebuild the stadium to European standards, budgeted at five million euros, has left no confirmed trace of completion, and by the mid-2020s the ground is described as in a poor state. The athletics track around the pitch, abandoned for years, was restored in August 2013 using municipal funds after the sports ministry declined to pay. CS Minaur Baia Mare have called it home since 1950.
