Artificial turf went down in 2013 and stayed for seven seasons; after 2019/20 it came out again, replaced by natural grass stitched through with two per cent synthetic fibre to hold it together.

It opened on 28 July 2007 as the replacement for the Zuiderpark Stadion, and designed so that it could grow later — the structure was laid out with a future capacity of 30,000 in mind. That expansion never came. The official figure has stayed at 15,000 since the first match, and attendances recorded in the ground have run well under it, around 9,675 for individual fixtures.

Football is not the only thing it has hosted. In 2014 the ground took men's and women's matches at the hockey World Cup between 31 May and 15 June, and in the men's final Australia beat the Netherlands 6-1. The Dutch men's side played the United States here in April 2013; the women's teams had met on the same pitch two years earlier. Duran Duran and Grace Jones both played the ground in 2011, Bizzey in 2019.

In 2019, with its own ground under repair, AZ Alkmaar moved in temporarily. Three years later storm Eunice tore at the roof, which was repaired afterwards. The name has changed with the sponsor four times — Kyocera, Cars Jeans, Bingoal, now WerkTalent — while ADO Den Haag and its women's team have stayed put since day one.
