Westoba Place
Brandon, Canada
Formerly: Keystone Centre, Westman Communications Group Place, Westman Place, Westoba Place, Assiniboine Credit Union Place
The arena portion of the Keystone Centre sits in the centre of Brandon’s commercial district, a place where the city’s energy is most concentrated. It has been home to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL) since the 1972–73 season, and the club is one of the oldest franchises in the league, tracing its roots back to 1936.
The building itself has a long history of rebranding. When it opened on April 2, 1973, it was the Keystone Centre. The next change came on May 1, 2007, when it became Westman Communications Group Place. That name was shortened to Westman Place in 2017, before Westoba Credit Union took over on February 2, 2018, renaming it Westoba Place. The most recent change happened on July 16, 2025, following a merger, and it is now the Assiniboine Credit Union Place. The capacity for hockey matches is listed as 5,102 fixed seats.
It is not just a hockey rink. The complex hosts the annual Royal Manitoba Winter Fair and concerts. A notable night for the Wheat Kings was November 8, 2013, when a Ryan Pulock bobblehead giveaway pulled in 7,066 fans against the Swift Current Broncos. For music, an Avenged Sevenfold concert reportedly drew 6,842 attendees.
The building is located at 1175 18th Street. It was constructed as a joint venture between the City of Brandon, the Government of Manitoba, and the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, with architects Ward & Macdonald Associates overseeing the work. The ground broke on November 13, 1970, and the project cost $3.4 million to complete.
