Wetherby Road
The artificial surface lasted until 2020, when Harrogate Town went up into the EFL and the league's rules left no room for it. The plastic came out, natural turf went down, and the club picked up a running cost roughly £20,000 a year higher than what it had been paying before.
A new main stand of about a thousand seats went up for the 2020–21 campaign, taking the capacity to 5,000. Three years later more than 600 seats were fitted into the South Stand, pushing the seated total past 2,000 — again because the EFL required it.
The older layers are still visible. The Main Stand dates from 1990. At the Hospital End, the covered terrace known as the Henderson Stand was built in 2014 for over £100,000, funded by the Football Foundation's Stadia Improvement Fund, and it is where the standing support gathers.
The attendance record has nothing to do with the league years. It was set in 1950, in the Whitworth Cup final, when 4,280 came to watch Harrogate Town play Harrogate Railway Athletic. Railway took them apart, 3–0, on their neighbours' ground.
