Winslow Sports Club

Winslow, United Kingdom

Formerly: Bell Closes, Mill Close, Flower Show Field

Winslow Sports Club occupies a patch of land in Buckinghamshire that has changed its name three times over the last century. It began as Mill Close, where a windmill once stood, before becoming Bell Closes in the seventeenth century. The parish council finally purchased the site for community recreation in 1949, and the club has held its home ground there ever since.

The ground sits comfortably between its two sporting tenants. Winslow United F.C. uses the pitch for football, while the Winslow Croquet Club shares the wider facility. The croquet side has a long history here, though recent years have brought practical headaches; repeated vandalism to the perimeter fences has cost the club around £18,000 in repairs, a sum large enough to threaten their future in the town.

Football at the venue has seen its moments of consequence. The club reached the Second Round Proper of the FA Vase in the 1983–84 season and again more recently in 2025–26. The Southern League Division One Central Promotion Play-off Final saw a crowd of 1,008 gather to watch the victory over Cockfosters.

The facility itself is modest. The capacity sits at approximately 2,000, with only 100 of those spots covered by seating. The ground has retained its natural grass surface through decades of use.
