Yankee Stadium
Formerly: Yankee Stadium (1923–2008)
Yankee Stadium opened on 2 April 2009 with an exhibition game, then hosted its first regular-season fixture on 16 April, standing across 161st Street from the site of its 1923 predecessor.
Capacity shifts with what's being played. For baseball it now sits at 46,537, down from 50,287 in the opening seasons as the club trimmed seating over the years; convert the field for soccer, and the number drops to 28,743. The record crowd since 2009 came not from either sport but from a play-off night — 50,960 for Game 5 of the 2011 ALDS against Detroit. It is a modest figure next to the old stadium's own record, 123,707.
The pitch is Kentucky Bluegrass, and the ground now does more than host the Yankees.
