Yeni Buca Stadyumu

Izmir, Turkey

Formerly: Buca Arena

The ground sits in the Buca district of İzmir. The architect Cemil Şeboy gave it a shape that feels slightly separate from the city centre, a quiet place for local football.

The grass is natural. On match days the crowd settles into the yellow seats.

The stadium opened in 2009, replacing a smaller venue that stood on the same site. It was originally named Buca Arena, but the name changed to Yeni Buca Stadyumu later, a shift that reflects the local desire to move on. The Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports owns the building, which means the funding comes from the state, a fact that explains the scale of the project.

The capacity is 8,810, a number that fits the district. Plans to expand the stadium were discussed but never completed, leaving the structure as it is today. Bucaspor 1928 plays their home games here in the TFF 2. Lig, a division where the local support is fierce. The first official match was played against Çorumspor on a cold January evening.

The old stadium was demolished to make way for this new building, a decision that cleared the land but also removed a piece of local history. The new ground is functional and clean, with floodlights standing tall on concrete towers. It is not a place for glamour, but for the game itself.
