ZDT Aréna

Nové Veselí, Czechia

Formerly: Sportovní hala Nové Veselí, Sportovní hala Městysu Nové Veselí

The first thing a visitor notices at ZDT Aréna is the scale. It is a modest indoor hall in Nové Veselí, a town in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. The building sits at Žďárská 158.

The hall opened in September 2007, declared a construction project of the Vysočina Region that same year. It received the Governor's Award of the Vysočina Region, a recognition of its role in the community. The funding came from the Městys Nové Veselí and the Ministry of Finance, ensuring the venue served a practical purpose from day one.

Today the hall is defined by the sound of handballs hitting walls. The primary tenant is TJ Sokol Nové Veselí, a team that plays in the Czech Chance Extraliga, the top division of Czech handball. The arena also hosts SKKP Handball Brno for select home matches, bringing a touch of the capital to this quiet corner of Moravia. The space is not limited to professionals; local elementary school students use it for physical education, and a volleyball team trains here as well.

The seating capacity is 190, a number that ensures fans remain close to the action. For visiting players, the hall includes accommodation with 40 beds, removing the need to travel back to the hotel after a match. Adjacent to the indoor hall lies an outdoor pitch with an artificial surface, though the arena itself is the main attraction for those seeking indoor sport.

The naming of the venue changed in 2016. Originally known as Sportovní hala Nové Veselí, it was renamed ZDT Aréna after a local company that has supported athletes for over half a century. The ground hosts tournaments like the Sokol Cup and the Memoriál Dr. Josefa Smékala, events that bring the community together once more.
