Zimní stadion Sokolov
Sokolov, Czechia
The Zimní stadion Sokolov sits on Boženy Němcové 1780, but its character comes from the roof.
The arena opened in 1961 as an outdoor rink. A roof arrived in 1973. In 2010 the structure was replaced with laminated wooden beams and the technical installations were rebuilt. The cost was 150 million CZK. The surface is ice, kept cold by refrigeration systems. The boards around the rink are modern, installed during a renovation in 2001.
HC Baník Sokolov plays here. The Maxa liga is where they compete now. Capacity is reported at 5,000 by most sources, though Kudy z nudy gives 3,500 with only 500 seats. A playoff match against Přerov in 1995 drew 3,500 spectators, which is the closest thing to a record that exists.
The website www.hcsokolov.cz lists the club; the arena itself is managed by Správa sportovních zařízení Sokolov, spol. s r.o. and appears on www.szs.cz. The dimensions of the ice are cited as either 58 by 28 meters or 60 by 30 — the difference does not change how the game is played.
