Zimný štadión Dubnica nad Váhom

The Zimný štadión Dubnica nad Váhom sits quietly at Športovcov 1. Built in the early 1980s, the arena was a collaborative effort, funded by the city and supported by local heavy engineering plants like ZŤS Dubnica nad Váhom and ZVS. Aladár Szabó planned the capacity.

Today, the ground feels more modest than its official figures suggest. While sources cite a capacity of 3,500, the atmosphere remains intimate, reminiscent of the 3,000 seats listed in older records. This closeness was evident during the 2013/2014 season, when 3,321 fans packed into the stands for a relegation playoff against HC Topoľčany. That match mattered, and the crowd refused to go away. For most years, however, the arena hosts MHK Dubnica nad Váhom, a club that has moved between the top flight and the second tier, the 1. hokejová liga SR. The artificial ice surface requires maintenance, most recently a four-month reconstruction in 2022 costing nearly one million euros. The work replaced the cooling system and restored the boards, bringing the venue back into service by November.

There are no former names or international tournaments here; the focus remains strictly local. The Slovak Cup quarter-finals have occasionally brought bigger opponents to town, but the draw brought them together early, and the games concluded without lasting legacy. What remains is a steady presence in the Slovak ice hockey landscape. The ground is not a temple of the sport, but it is the only place in Dubnica where the ice is kept cold. It serves the players who work a short corner and the supporters who come to watch them.
