Match report

Ghana's women under-20 side defeated South Korea 3-1 in their second Group Stage match of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup on Tuesday. The result leaves Ghana top of their group with three points, while South Korea remain on one from their opening draw with France.

Ghana took control early in the second half. S. Nyarko opened the scoring in the fifty-second minute, followed by I. Osei just three minutes later. To be fair, South Korea had organised themselves well enough in the first period but could not find a way through Ghana's defence. By then the hosts had already shown they meant business.

South Korea made four changes at the break, bringing on Jin Hye-Rin and Maeng Hui-Jin together. They added Park Ji-Yoo in the fifty-sixth minute and received a yellow card from Kim Min-seo sixty-three minutes in. The visitors pushed for a reply but found Ghana's back line too solid.

R. Amponsah sealed the result in the eighty-fourth minute. South Korea pulled one back through Y. Beom in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late. They had one foot in trouble and could not recover.

The victory gives Ghana breathing space in the group. South Korea now face a must-win situation if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
