Manchester City beat Norwich City 5-0 in the Round of 32 of the League Cup at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening. The first goal arrived in the twenty-ninth minute when Floyd Samba found the net. A minute later Kellen Fisher received a yellow card, and the visitors had already felt the pressure. Rayan Cherki added a second just before the break, firing home in the thirty-second minute. The half ended with City ahead 2-0, and the substitution board activated for both Cherki and Papa Amadou Diallo at the interval.
Allan Andrade Elias opened the second half account in the forty-eighth minute, extending the lead before Floyd Samba completed his brace in the fifty-fourth. Norwich sat deep and soaked it up, but the pressure told. The home side switched things up after the break, bringing on Ante Crnac in the sixty-second minute and then three more changes at the seventy-first hour.
Ryan McAidoo rounded off the scoring in the ninetieth minute, and Mathias Kvistgaarden was among the final substitutions at eighty-five. City ran the show for ninety minutes without conceding a single shot on target. To be fair, Norwich created nothing of note all evening.
The statistics tell the same story. City held 66 per cent possession and registered 156 attacks compared with 70 for the visitors. They shot six times on target with an expected goals figure of 1.38, while Norwich failed to hit the frame once and produced just 0.12 xG. Four big chances were created by the home side, none by the away side. The shots accuracy stood at 43 per cent for City against a zero for Norwich.
The result keeps City's winning streak alive, extending a run that includes victories over Manchester United, Porto, Coventry, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. Norwich's recent form has been mixed, with wins against Birmingham and Sheffield United but losses to Stoke and Middlesbrough. The scoreline leaves City top of their path, and Norwich still have work to do.
