About the player
Diego Ezequiel Calcaterra came through at Newell's Old Boys, making his first-team debut against Huracán in April 2021 before leaving for San Lorenzo as a free agent the following year. He was loaned out to Sarmiento de Junín for a season and a half, a spell in which he scored against Tigre. He returned to San Lorenzo in 2025, but with the coaching staff not counting on him, the move to Cúcuta Deportivo followed in March that year, arriving on a free loan with an option to buy.
A centre-back by trade, though sometimes used further forward, Calcaterra has had his clearest international exposure at under-23 level under Javier Mascherano, called up as part of Argentina's pre-Olympic preparations in 2024. The previous November he had already featured for that group on a tour that took in Japan and Central America: he started a goalless draw with Japan and a 1-1 draw against Venezuela in Esquipulas, having also been in the squad for a heavier 5-2 defeat to the same Japanese side days earlier.
At Cúcuta he now wears the number 3 shirt in Colombia's Primera A.
