Fernando Antonio Álvarez Amador

Fernando Álvarez was born to a Colombian father and a Mexican mother, but it is Colombia he has represented at youth level. He came through the Pachuca academy from 2016, working his way up through the Sub-17 and Sub-20 sides before making his senior debut for the Mexican club on 25 October 2021, a 1-1 draw away to FC Juárez. He stayed at Pachuca until 2023 and was part of the squad that won the Apertura title in the 2022/2023 season.

That title, together with his progress at youth level with Colombia, helped push through a move to CF Montreal in July 2023. In Canada he scored his first MLS goal in May 2024. He remained with the club until January 2026, when he signed for Deportivo Cali as a free agent.

At international level, Álvarez has represented Colombia at Under-20 level, earning 15 caps and featuring at the 2023 South American U-20 Championship and the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he started as Colombia went out to Italy in the quarter-final. He was later called up to the Under-23 squad for the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament in 2024, though a senior cap for the Colombian national team has so far eluded him.

At Deportivo Cali, in February 2026 he was sent off against Atlético Bucaramanga.
