J. Lacey

Joe Lacey is a home-grown product of the Sydney FC academy, having joined the club's Academy Training Program at the age of eleven after starting out at junior side Curl Curl FC. He became the first player in the club's history to progress all the way through that pathway, from the ATP through the Academy Under-13 squad and into the first team, and signed his first professional contract, a three-year deal, in December 2023. He made his senior competitive debut in the 2025 Australia Cup quarter-final against Auckland FC.

The moment that stands out from his early career came in a pre-season friendly rather than a league fixture. On 15 July 2025, Lacey scored the winning goal in a 2–1 victory over EFL Championship side Wrexham AFC. The goal carried extra weight for him personally: Lacey is of Welsh descent, and his aunt works as a paramedic for Wrexham.

That dual heritage has also shaped his path at international level. He has been capped once for Australia at Under-20 level, but has since turned out twice for Wales at Under-19 level. In the A-League Men itself, his first-team involvement remains limited, with one league appearance to date and no goals or assists yet to his name.
