About the player

Thomas Mayer grew up in Linz, coming through the youth ranks at SC Schwanenstadt before spells with LASK Linz and VfB Stuttgart shaped his development. He turned senior with Rapid Wien's second team, then FC Pasching, before FC Liefering took him on in 2014 — a route that led back to LASK Linz, where he signed permanently and made 26 appearances. He followed that with a move to SC Austria Lustenau, scoring six in 29 outings.

In September 2020 Mayer left Austria for Hull City on a free transfer. His time in England was cut short: after six appearances, a knee injury in January 2021 ended his season, and he was released that August. He was still part of the Hull City squad that won the EFL League One title in 2020/21, though he did not play in the playoffs.

Mayer rebuilt his career back home with SKU Amstetten, joining on a free transfer in 2021 and scoring seven goals in 54 league appearances over two seasons. A move to Grazer AK followed in 2023, and he won the 2. Liga title with the club in the 2023/24 season, contributing 25 appearances and a goal. He returned to SKU Amstetten in July 2024, and scored four goals in 26 league games in 2024/25.

Mayer represented Austria at U16 and U17 level but has not been capped at senior international level.
