Al Zawra'a

The rebuilt Al-Zawra'a Stadium reopened in February 2022, giving Baghdad's most successful club a home to match its record.

The club's defining season came in 1999–2000, when it swept the league, the cup, the Super Cup and the Baghdad Championship in one campaign — a quadruple no other Iraqi club has repeated. The same run carried Al-Zawra'a to the final of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup, where Japan's Shimizu S-Pulse beat them 1–0 in Chiang Mai.

Ahmed Radhi wore the white shirt before he became the man who scored Iraq's only World Cup goal, against Belgium in 1986, and was named Asia's Footballer of the Year two years later. The 1980s themselves were leaner: no league title and a brush with relegation, until Falah Hassan's rebuild put the club back among the contenders. Decades later the pattern showed again in continental football — a 5–0 and then a 5–1 against Al-Wasl in the 2019 AFC Champions League.

Al-Zawra'a's meetings with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya are known as the Iraqi Classico, and together with the derbies against Al-Shorta and Al-Talaba they make up the four fixtures Baghdad follows closest. On matchday the ground holds 15,443, filled out in the white and blue that gave the club its nickname, Al-Nawaris — the Gulls.
