Whoever the young Spaniards face at a European finals, the two sides that keep meeting La Rojita in the closing rounds when the medals are decided. It is a rivalry built on repetition rather than history, the kind that forms when the same three or four countries keep drawing each other in a competition still young enough that nobody has had time to grow old rivalries the way the men's game has.

The side sits under the Royal Spanish Football Federation, formed in 1913, and trains out of La Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, outside Madrid, though a fixture list this heavy takes the squad to grounds across the country and beyond rather than settling anywhere for long. What sets this generation apart is how rarely it has come away from a summer empty-handed: the European Under-19 Championship has gone to Spain in 2004, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and again in 2026, a run that has made the tournament feel less like a contest than a formality some years.

The bigger prize came in 2022, when Spain beat Japan 3-1 in the final of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, four years after losing that same fixture in reverse. That squad did not stay young for long — several of its players moved straight into the senior team and into the biggest clubs in Europe, which is really the point of a side like this one.

Few have made that jump as visibly as Aitana Bonmatí, who came through these age groups before becoming one of the most complete midfielders in the women's game, the kind of player a youth set-up is built to produce and, occasionally, lucky enough to keep for a couple of tournaments before the senior side comes calling.
