Chaba Kaew earned their first Asian crown in 1983, at the AFC Women's Asian Cup, having lost the final twice before, in 1975 and 1981, and finished third at the next edition in 1986. Four AFF Women's Championship trophies, in 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018, against three runner-up finishes, and five SEA Games gold medals stretching from 1985 to 2013.

On the world stage the record is thinner. Thailand reached the group stage at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and again in 2019, when the tournament also produced the heaviest defeat in the team's history, 13–0 to the United States. The Olympic Games have never featured Thailand at all, and the best finish at the Asian Games came with fourth place, in 2014 and 2018.

Pitsamai Sornsai stands apart in the team's history: 125 caps and 45 goals. Natipong Sritong-In took over as head coach in 2026, succeeding Naruphol Kaenson.

Matches against Vietnam carry their own weight in the region, billed by some as the "ASEAN El Clásico." The side wears blue at home, with red and white kits in reserve, echoing the national flag.
