Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex

The Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex is not a traditional football ground. Built in 2007, the facility has served multiple purposes, each marked by a change of name and a shift in use. It began as the Abrankese Stadium, a home for Kessben FC, before serving as a venue for religious gatherings under the tenure of the Moments of Glory Prayer Army.

The complex was acquired in 2022 by Dr. Kwame Kyei, the former chairman of Asante Kotoko SC. He commissioned renovations and renamed the complex, handing it over to Nations FC. It hosted the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup Final, where Dreams FC defeated King Faisal FC, and later served as a temporary home for Asante Kotoko during renovations at their primary venue. The Ghana national team also held a training camp there in January 2024 ahead of the 2023 AFCON.

Capacity remains a matter of debate among local observers. While many sources cite 12,000 seats, others suggest a more modest 5,000. The physical structure is straightforward: a natural grass pitch surrounded by stands that have seen better days. In October 2023, the seating area suffered damage after a derby match against Nations FC, a reminder of the passion that flows through this community. Yet, despite the vandalism, the complex remains the only major football ground in Kuntanase.

The ground does not hide its origins. It stands as a testament to the fluctuating fortunes of local football in the Ashanti Region. From a club's private arena to a religious center and finally to a neutral host for national cup finals, the stadium has adapted to survive. It is a place where football exists alongside other priorities, a reality reflected in its uneven attendance and the occasional absence of seats.
