Estádio Bento Freitas
Pelotas, Brazil
Formerly: Baixada, Caldeirão, Estádio Bento Mendes de Freitas
Estádio Bento Freitas sits at Rua Doutor João Pessoa, 694 in the Centro district of Pelotas. This work began after a section of the stands collapsed in 2015, a significant event that forced a period of dormancy before the phased rebuilding project started. That project, financed through a property swap rather than direct cash, aimed to expand the capacity to over 20,000, though the current usable space is significantly smaller due to safety restrictions and incomplete work. The stadium's identity is tied to Grêmio Esportivo Brasil, which has called it home since its inauguration on May 23, 1943. It has been known by several names over the years, including Baixada and Caldeirão, but the history of the club is etched into the concrete. A notable moment in its history was a match on July 18, 1985, when it hosted an attendance record of 22,000 for a Campeonato Brasileiro game against Flamengo. The stadium is not just for football; it has also seen concerts, such as one by Sandy & Junior in 2002.
