Estádio Lino Correia

Estádio Lino Correia sits quietly in the Centro district of Bissau. The ground was opened in 1948 by the Portuguese colonial administration, originally named simply Estádio de Bissau before being renamed in honour of Governor Manuel Sarmento Rodrigues. It was not until independence in 1974 that the stadium received its current name, paying tribute to Lino Correia, a former player and guerrilla fighter who died fighting in 1962.

The pitch is covered in artificial turf, installed during a significant rehabilitation project completed in 2007. This work was funded by FIFA; it brought light back to the stadium.

The ground serves as a home for local clubs such as Estrela Negra de Bissau and has hosted matches for the national team, including a draw against Togo in 2011.
