Estadio Municipal de Las Gaunas

The seating bowl at Estadio Municipal de Las Gaunas is defined by a single stripe of colour. The structure feels low, close to the touchline, with a concrete track separating the tier from the pitch. Above the stands a dark, cantilevered roof stretches across the length of the ground, and the floodlights sit at the very top of the steel truss. A sign reading Ayuntamiento de Logroño is visible on the wall behind the far end.

Unlike the larger arenas in Madrid or Barcelona, this ground does not hide behind advertising hoardings. The view from the terrace steps is clear and uninterrupted. You can watch the players warm up on the natural grass without any glass or fencing between you and the field. The stadium was built in 2002 to replace an old field that stood on the same site for decades. It replaced a venue that had seen its share of history, but this new one was designed to be functional rather than grand. The architect Antonio Lamela kept the lines simple, avoiding unnecessary decoration.

Local clubs have used this ground for years, moving in and out as fortunes changed. UD Logroñés and SD Logroñés have shared the space since the early 2000s, and Dux Logroñés joined them recently. The pitch is standard size, 104 by 66 metres, and the grass is cut short and green. In winter the wind comes straight through from the hills, and players often talk about how it affects the ball. When the Spanish national team played here in 2011, the crowd was tight, and the team tightened things up against Liechtenstein. Later, in 2015, they played Luxembourg and gave up the ball and hit them on the break. The attendance record was set in January 2025, when Athletic Bilbao visited for a copa match. The stadium fell silent in the final moments, and the away fans clawed their way back from a penalty shootout. It was the first time the ground had held nearly 16,000 people for a local derby.
