Nyetimber Lane

Pagham Football Club plays on a patch of earth that was once a holiday club, then a school for evacuees, before becoming a football pitch in 1950. The ground sits in a quiet residential corner of West Sussex, adjoining the Pagham Cricket Club. It is not a grand arena, but a place where the local team, known as 'The Lions', have built their reputation on natural grass that has earned recognition from its own caretaker. In 2018, the club president was voted best groundsman in the Southern Combination, a quiet testament to the work done on this 1,500-capacity site.

The layout is simple: a main stand attached to the clubhouse and a terrace on the north side, with the rest of the spectators standing on uncovered terraces. The floodlights illuminate the pitch, which has seen its share of weather. During the 2023/24 season, rain was more frequent than dry spells; Storm Babet caused a match against Whitehawk in the FA Cup to be abandoned, a reminder that this ground, like many in the south coast, is exposed to the elements. The surface remains natural grass, a choice that requires constant attention.

Nominally Nyetimber Lane, the venue adopted a new name in June 2025 after a three-year partnership with a local builder. Before that, and for most of its life, it was simply the lane it sits on. The club moved here after 47 years on various farmers' fields, seeking stability in a place that had already hosted a holiday club and a school. The highest attendance recorded was 1,200, for a match against Bognor Regis Town in the 1970/71 season, a number that reflects the small-town nature of the fixture. There are no large stands or luxury boxes, just a working pitch and a community that knows the value of keeping the team in it against the elements.
