The ground in Sangmélima carries a weight heavier than its 1,200 seats suggest. Yet, the grass remains, and the matches go on.
Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo plays here, treating the pitch as if nothing has changed. The venue is the only one in town, so it serves as the stage for regional finals too. When Atlantic Sport de Kribi met Djoum Sport Académie for the 2024 Inter-Poules final, they did not look for a bigger hall. They played there.
In 2019, there were talks of renaming it for François Essam, but the decision was overturned or simply ignored by time. It stayed the Stade Municipal de Sangmélima. Even Samuel Eto’o’s visit to launch a national tour could not finish the job. The promised renovations were left behind.
Rain interruptions suggest the surface is natural, though no one has checked the official list.
