Club Friendly 2026/27

Club Friendly matches in handball represent informal contests rather than a structured league or cup with a defined pyramid, promotion/relegation, or official governing body structure. These games allow clubs to test strategies and players outside the pressure of official competition. The term refers to these friendly encounters, which are not part of any formal tournament series.

Clubs from various nations participate in these arrangements. Venissieux competes in French lower tiers. Leutershausen and TuS N-Lübbecke feature in German leagues, with the former in the 3. Liga and the latter in the 2. Bundesliga. Dobova plays in Slovenian lower tiers. Leoben participates in the Austrian HLA Challenge. Ciudad Real, a Spanish club, ceased operations in 2013 after relocating to Madrid in 2011 and dissolving in 2013.

Such friendlies do not follow a single organizing framework. Each match is arranged independently between participating clubs. There is no unified table, no championship title awarded, and no systematic progression through rounds. The primary purpose is preparation for the upcoming season or maintenance of match fitness during break periods.

Unlike official competitions, there are no strict rules governing participation. Clubs invite opponents based on availability, location, and mutual agreement. Travel distances vary significantly, with German clubs sometimes facing opponents from Austria or Slovenia. Financial arrangements are private between the parties involved.

These matches provide opportunities for player development and tactical experimentation without the consequences of official results. Coaches can assess squad depth and try new formations. Fans witness action in a less formal setting, though the level of play remains competitive.

Year 2026 sees such arrangements continuing across Europe. Clubs seek meaningful opponents for pre-season preparation or mid-season breaks. The nature of these fixtures ensures flexibility for all participants.
