The Coppa Italia di Pallamano stands as the premier domestic knockout competition in Italian handball. Organized by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Handball (FIGH), it operates alongside the league championships and the Supercoppa Italiana. The men's edition began in 1974, while the women's tournament was established later in 1987.
The competition serves as a significant route to European qualification. The winner earns a place in the EHF European Cup, the second-tier continental tournament. The structure relies on the "Final Eight" (Final8) format for the top-tier men's and women's divisions. This stage involves the eight best teams from the first half of the regular season. It is a single-elimination event held over a long weekend in one host city. The schedule includes quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, with a match to determine third place. While earlier editions sometimes featured a preliminary round for twelve teams, the Final Eight is now the standard.
Historical success defines the landscape of the cup. In the men's category, Pallamano Trieste and Pallamano Conversano are tied for the most titles with six each. Trieste's victories span from 1986–87 to 2001–02, while Conversano claimed their titles between 2002–03 and 2020–21. SSV Bozen (Bolzano) has also been a dominant force, securing five titles from 2011–12 through 2019–20. More recently, Albatro Siracusa became the current men's holder after defeating Trieste.
The Supercoppa Italiana remains distinct from this cup. Founded in 2005, it is a single-match fixture played in August between the Serie A champion and the Coppa Italia winner. It carries no European qualification implications.
