About

The **MOL Liga Women**, officially the Women Handball International League (WHIL), operates as the premier women's handball competition for clubs from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Established in 2002 by the Czech Handball Association and the Slovak Handball Federation, it sits above the respective domestic first divisions. Iuventa Michalovce holds the record for success, having won the title eleven times. This dominance spans the mid-2000s and the 2010s, marking them as the most successful club in the league's history. DHC Slavia Prague are the current holders, having claimed the 2023–24 championship after defeating DHK Baník Most in the Slovak national playoffs. The season structure is distinct. All teams compete in a unified regular season using a round-robin format. Following this initial phase, the competition divides into two parallel tracks. Teams from each country enter separate national playoffs to determine their own national champions. The winners of these national contests then advance to a Final Four or playoff series to decide the overall MOL Liga champion. Participation is not governed by simple promotion and relegation. Clubs maintain their status through license criteria and agreements between the two federations. A playoff system, known as *baráž*, allows bottom-placed Czech teams to compete against winners of domestic second divisions to retain or gain MOL Liga status. The league provides a transnational platform that enables clubs to face higher-level opposition while still securing national titles through the split playoff structure. Hungarian clubs do not currently participate in the competition. The league features twelve teams in total, with nine hailing from the Czech Republic and three from Slovakia.

Key Fact: Iuventa Michalovce has won the competition eleven times.
