The German Women’s Handball Super Cup (DHB-Supercup der Frauen) is the annual opening fixture for the national women’s game. Founded in 2008 by the German Handball Association (Deutscher Handballbund, DHB), the event sits at the apex of the domestic pyramid. It is played in a single match, usually in August or September, before the league campaign begins. The participants are determined by the previous season’s results: the reigning Handball-Bundesliga champion faces the DHB-Pokal winner. Should one side complete the double, the Bundesliga runner-up steps in to ensure a contest. SG BBM Bietigheim Women hold the record with six titles, claimed in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. HSG Blomberg-Lippe Women secured the trophy in 2026, while HB Ludwigsburg won the 2024 edition. The competition has not been held every year; gaps occurred between 2010 and 2014, and again in 2020. It is distinct from the DHB-Pokal, a major knockout tournament that involves 58 teams and runs throughout the season. The Super Cup is a single-match curtain-raiser with lower prestige than the knockout cup. The 2026 season sees VfL Oldenburg Women, Metzingen Women, Borussia Dortmund Women and Bensheim-Auerbach Women among the participants in the league, which feeds into this opening clash.
