Differdange saw off Esch 29-27 in the AXA League on Friday evening, 10 October. The result leaves the hosts third with seven points from five games, while Esch remain top after five wins from five, now on ten points.
Esch had been on a good run all season — they beat Kereng HB 36-24 last time out and Dickirch 32-29 before that. Differdange, by contrast, had just lost 27-37 to Dudelange at home. We had called Differdange at 58 per cent confidence before kick-off. It came off.
The visitors carried their momentum into the first half, but Differdange found a way back into it. There were moments when the stadium fell silent, then the home side would push forward again. It was not a match decided in one burst — it was built, minute by minute, on small margins.
What mattered was how Differdange handled the pressure when Esch looked like pulling away. They did not rush. They kept their shape, waited for the right moment, and when it came, they took it. The scoreline tells you nothing about the balance of the game.
Esch's record remains spotless, but this one will sit with them. Differdange now have momentum heading into their next fixture, and frankly, they need the points badly. Three wins, one draw, one loss — not bad form at all.
