Aalsmeer secured their maiden Eredivisie triumph as they defeated PSV Handball 37-29 on Saturday evening. The result ended a scoreless run for both sides in the opening two rounds of the 2026-27 campaign. PSV had drawn their first two matches, while Aalsmeer sat in 12th place before this fixture.
The away side never looked back after taking control in the opening periods. PSV struggled to find rhythm against a well-organised Aalsmeer outfit that capitalised on every opportunity. The home team could not respond when the gap opened up, and the visitors held on comfortably for their first victory of the season.
Both clubs remain winless after two games, though the result shifts the balance slightly. Aalsmeer move to 12th place on zero points, while PSV drop further to 14th. The standings tell only part of the story — neither side has found a winning formula yet, but Aalsmeer have finally broken through.
PSV's recent form offers little comfort. They have lost four of their last five matches, including heavy defeats against Hellas 23-39 and Bevo HK 2 27-38 in September. Only a narrow victory over HV Unitas 27-34 in March suggests they can compete, but consistency remains elusive.
Aalsmeer's path to this result was far from straightforward. They arrived with four consecutive losses, including defeats to DVS 27-33 and Hellas 26-28 earlier this month. This match marks a turning point — the first time they have secured three points in the Eredivisie this season.
